‘A Fine Balance’ Desk

fine_balance_full

‘A Fine Balance’

A very contemporary ‘floating’ desk crafted from Walnut and lacquered MDF. This was a custom piece for a client so I was not able to get it professionally photographed like most of my other pieces, we’ll have to make do with my digital camera shot. As always the piece was handcrafted in Canada, and sustainable resources were used wherever possible.

Very happy with how this piece turned out, and it certainly was a challenge!

The ‘Tree’ Birdhouse

The 'Tree' Birdhouse

The 'Tree' Birdhouse

“Tree - Inspired by the ubiquitous condos of my adopted city and it’s lush surroundings, Tree is the ideal perch for the urban bird. Individually hand crafted in Canada from steel and an assortment of reclaimed hardwoods.”

Also of note, the lovely tree stumps do not come with the birdhouses when I sell them retail. This is part of a line of pet products I’ve been doing lately including some wonderful bamboo and organic cotton cat/small dog beds that don’t suit this site. Pets are a way of life here in Vancouver, and unfortunately there is not much out there for the consumer looking for something to match their contemporary decor so I took it upon myself to try and fill in that gap a little bit.

Hello from Kilowatt Studio and a piece that I like!

Hello everyone! Kilowatt Studio is a contemporary (primarily wood) furniture design studio located in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. The rain hasn’t started yet this year so we are still enjoying some warm sunny days here at the end of September! We have a fair amount of other woodworkers here in Vancouver but it would be great to meet some more from other areas.

“A new take on ‘bowl’. A curvaceous black walnut or white oak is sliced through by a lacquered mdf shelf. Neither one can stand alone. But together their possibilities are endless.”

Our design philosophy is definitely of the ‘less is more’ approach and an elegance through simplicity. Downtown Vancouver is a growing urban center and the hi-rise condos tend to be streamlined and simple for a maximum amount of space. We try to match those sleek lines and simple functionality in our pieces.
